Our mission



The Sharks Studies Centre - Scientific Institute (Dec.Min.n.17647) , recognized private structure, in scientific coordination with the Universities of Calabria and Siena, carries out study activities on sharks, conservation and didactics, addressed to students , researchers and the general public. The Sharks Studies Centre - Scientific Institute is part of the network of the Tuscan Observatory for Biodiversity promoted by the Tuscany Region, it does not receive public funding and carries out its activities thanks to: revenue of the Posidonia non-profit association , research projects, sponsorships, donations and contributions to take part in expeditions.


 

Research



The Sharks Studies Centre - Scientific Institute , carries out scientific research in the laboratory and in the field in the Mediterranean Sea and abroad that deal with various topics, from the controlled reproduction of Elasmobranchs, to the monitoring of sharks and nurseries along the Italian coast, to monitoring of nursery grey reef sharks, ecology and behavior of the white shark or whale shark etc, depending on the projects activated with internal resources or in collaboration with universities and public or private research institutions.


 

University



Shark training with internationally recognized experts and use of the boat Sharks Studies Centre - Scientific Institute for monitoring sharks in the Mediterranean Sea. The Sharks Studies Centre - Scientific Institute provides University students with the tools to carry out the internship and to collect data on various aspects of shark biology and ecology both in the laboratory and in the field in the Mediterranean Sea or abroad. From 2007 to 2019, more than 50 Master degree were carried out at the Sharks Studies Centre - Scientific Institute.
